Watch This Nissan 240SX Drag Car Dial In A Massive 91mm Turbo At The Strip

The car's owner, James, at first built it up to 400 horsepower, then 800, then LS1-swapped it, and now things have just gotten totally out of control.

WhenThe Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift introduced American moviegoers to Japan's domestic tuning and modding culture, one of the main takeaways was, no doubt, that awesome car known as the "Mona Lisa of Drifting." While plenty of fans probably guessed they'd never get a chance to check out a JDM car sold abroad, more knowledgeable viewers might have been able to immediately go out and pick themselves up a Nissan 240SX for cheap before the boom hit. The result is that 240SX examples are now favorite for their lightweight, nimble handling, and rear-wheel-drive layout that combines with easy tunability to create a perfect recipe for drifting and time attack projects. But most of those traits could easily apply to a drag car, too, as definitively proven by a new YouTube post from 1320video featuring a wild 240SX testing out some new mods at the strip.

Not A Sleeper

While not as clean as the mod-jobs that featured on the silver screen, nobody would look at this build and think it's even close to stock. The car's owner, James, shares how he started with this 1990 Nissan 240SX ten years ago when he bought it at age 18. At first, he built it up to 400 horsepower, then 800, then LS1-swapped it, and now things have just gotten totally out of control.

Staying Sly

Under the bulbous hood lurks a Texas Speed & Performance block built up with all the goodies, including a solid roller cam, a Texas Speed intake, and methanol injectors. James recently bolted on an absurd 91mm turbo, which he's trying to dial in in the video while simultaneously testing out a solid rear axle swap. By the fourth run, he's confident the gains over the Nissan's original independent rear suspension setup have been substantial—though he won't share specific quarter-mile times.

Climb Aboard

In a couple of blasts off the line, James launches the 240SX hard—but then admits he's detuned to only four pounds of boost for a second and a half, then ramping up to 13 psi down the track. His current injectors will max out at 26 pounds, though by the time he hits 20 psi on his sixth run with the new setup, he's already set a new personal best despite actually losing the race.
